Are you Interested in starting a career in the Security Industry? Do you want to know How to become a Security Guard? Security training begins at a pre-licence level.
All potential guards must apply for training and pass a series of checks in order to begin. Once approved for training you may begin by taking a Certificate I in Pre-Licence Security (91190NSW).
The Certificate I course consists of several Units from the nationally recognised Qualification, Certificate I in Security Operations (PRS10103) and Modules that prepare you for working in the security industry.
The Licence Categories are listed below describing the type of work you will be eligible to do with that licence and what elective Modules need to be taken in the Certificate I in Pre-Licence Security Courses.
- Category 1A - Static and Mobile Guard
- Required for: Patrolling and Lockup.
- Requires module: 11122A
- Category 1B - Bodyguard
- Required for: Bodyguarding and Close-Protection.
- Requires modules: 11122A, 11122B and 11122S
- Category 1C - Crowd Controller
- Required for: Crowd Control and Working in Licenced Premises.
- Requires modules: 11122A, 11122C
- Category 1D - Dog Handler
- Required for: Any dog handling security.
- Requires modules: 11122A, 11122D, 11122C and 11122S
- Category 1E - Controlroom Operator
- Required for: Control room monitoring work.
- Requires module: 11122E
- Category 1F - Armed Guard
- Required for: ALL Armed work.
- Requires modules: 11122A, 11122F and 11122S
- Category 1G - Loss Prevention Officer
- Required for: Loss Prevention.
- Requires modules: 11122A
After getting their Licences guards must undergo one (1) year of Workplace Training whilst holding a Provisional (P) Licence during which time they must undergo four (4) assessments. If completed successfully they will go to a Certficate II or III, depending on which licence category they wish to hold.
